Bhubaneswar: The STF of Health Department setup to crack the fake drug racket had arrested one Sunil Agrawal at Bargarh and filed FIR against Amit Kumar Sarwagi of Jharsuguda who was on the run.
The spurious drugs seized included some highly circulated Antibiotic brands such as: IT-Mac 200, Clavam 625 and a few others.
These drugs were found supplied from three firms of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh: Baby Enterprises, Misir Pokhra Luxa Road; JP Medicals, Chaubeypur; and Guru Kripa Medical, Nichibagh.
For investigation, a team led by Dr Sudarsan Biswal, ADC Bhubaneswar II Circle with Sashmita Dehury, Drugs Inspector, Jharsuguda Range and Sunita Nag, Drugs Inspector, Bargarh Range proceeded to Varanasi on April 17, The Special Task Force, Uttar Pradesh provided all necessary assistance.
In a major crackdown on spurious drug racket and after rigorous work of 9 days jointly by STF Odisha and STF UP, on April 25, five accused Chandra Sekhar Singh, Gourab Sharma, Retesh Kumar Jaiswal, Subham Jaiswal and Abhishek Singh, were arrested.
Bargarh police has secured police remand of these persons. The team along with local Drugs Inspector, City, Amit Kumar Bansal, and Sanjay Dutt, Drugs Inspector, Rural, seized the suspected spurious drugs of about Rs 25 lakh.
A hard disk with computer and evidence showing transaction of more than Rs 1 crore has been seized. On March 2, based on Health Secretary’s report, UP STF had seized spurious drugs worth Rs 7.30 crore.
