Keonjhar: An infant was killed, while another child and their parents were severely injured in an elephant attack in Santanapur Bhramundi Sahi in the Ghatga range of Odisha’s Keonjhar district late Thursday night.
According to reports, the incident occurred when the village headman, wife Rashmita, and their two children were sleeping inside their house after dinner. Suddenly, a tusker pushed the walls of the house and they collapsed. Rashmita’s one-year-old girl Manasi Munda and the remaining members of the family came under the wall.
Hearing the family’s cries for help, local villagers rushed to the spot and rescued the three. On being informed, Forest department staff arrived in the village and admitted the injured to Ghatgaon Hospital. They were later shifted to Keonjhar Hospital as their condition deteriorated. Mansi Munda died while undergoing treatment.
The Forest Department has started an investigation at the mishap site.
