Bhubaneswar: Outlawed Maoist cadres reportedly shot dead a former Sarpanch of Sumerbad village under Firingia police station limits in Odisha’s Kandhamal district of Odisha late on Wednesday night on the suspicion of being a police informer.
According to reports, a cadre of the Kandhamal-Kalahandi-Boudh-Nayagarh (KKBN) division of the Maoists called the Sarpanch from his house and shot him dead. About ten armed militants were involved in the crime. The former Sarpanch, who was a contractor, was targeted by Naxalites on earlier occasions too.
Kandhamal SP Shuvendu Kumar Patra is monitoring the situation.
It is worth mentioning here that CRPF jawans had gunned down three Maoists in Kalahandi district on May 9 and the Maoists are said to be in a retaliatory mood. It is being said that the former Sarpanch’s murder may have taken place to avenge the death of three cadres.
