Bhubaneswar: In a remarkable achievement, Ganjam district in Odisha won the 4th National Water Awards 2022 as the best district in the country in water resources conservation and management.
The award was announced by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, River Development, and Ganga Rejuvenation.
Jal Shakti Ministry informed that Ganjam was selected as the best district for its achievement in augmenting irrigation potential, drainage and river rejuvenation, soil conservation and watershed management, plantation, water supply, conservation and treatment of wastewater, climate resilience initiatives, and other district level initiatives.
With the aim to ensure efficient management of water resources, the Ganjam district administration accorded top priority to the conservation of water, groundwater recharge, efficient treatment and re-use of wastewater, massive plantation and mass sensitisation, and capacity building in water conservation and management.
The district administration also launched several projects together with other departments like PR&DW Department, Water Resources, Irrigation, Forest, Horticulture, Agriculture, Ground Water, and H&UD Department in this regard.
Ganjam district will be presented with a trophy and citation at a ceremony in New Delhi.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik took to his Twitter handle to congratulate the Ganjam district administration on winning the National Water Awards. “Congratulations to the Ganjam administration on winning National Water Awards, 2022 as the best district in water resources conservation & management. The award recognises exemplary work and efforts in the field of water resource management and conservation,” he said.
