Cuttack: The body of an unidentified girl was recovered from the Mahanadi river near Anantpur village under the Khuntuni police station of Athagarh. Locals first spotted the body floating in the river about 2 km from Mundli Bridge and informed the police.
Two days ago, a young woman from the Sundarpada area of Bhubaneswar had gone missing after abandoning her scooter (Reg. No. OD02BE 0396) on the barrage, and it is suspected that the body may be of the missing woman.
According to police, the identity of the body would be ascertained once the family members of the missing woman identify it. The woman’s family members have identified the scooter and said that the missing woman was Esurjya Parija of the Sundarpada area of Bhubaneswar. She was studying in a private college, the police said in the preliminary investigation report.
Athagarh police along with the Fire Services Department personnel have been searching for the missing woman near the Mundali Bridge.
