Malkangiri: A constable of Telangana Police was among seven persons arrested by Kalimela police here on Thursday in connection with a ganja smuggling case. The cop was identified as R Sreenu Naik (26) of Kamnaguda in Rangareddy district of Telangana.
The rest of the accused were identified as K Bijay Naik of Meerpet, Balu Jadav of Usmanabad in Maharashtra, R Kartik, Aluva Rajeev and N Venugopala of Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh.
The group was detained by a patrolling unit of Kalimela police on Wednesday night on the Ghat Road near Kamalpadar chowk. The accused had procured Ganja from Majhipaka (Kurmanur) and were transporting towards Andhra/Telengana side through NH 326.
Total 103 kg ganja, two cars, six smartphones including 3 iPhones, ATM cards, Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, RC etc were seized from the poessession of the accused. They were booked under Sections 20(b)(ii)(C)/25/27-A/29 of NDPS Act and forwarded to the court today.
