Balasore: In a gross incident, a man allegedly attempted to kill his infant daughter by injecting poison here today. As per reports, a year after their marriage, Chandan Mahana and Tanmayee were blessed with a baby girl 20 days back. Tanmayee was staying with her parents at Singhiri village under Nilagiri police limits after the delivery in a private hospital.
Tanmayee’s father Bhagirathi Singh said that Chandan came to see his daughter on the day. While Chandan was sitting with the infant, Tanmayee went to take bath. Meanwhile, the baby started crying and Tanmayee rushed to her. She found a syringe and a bottle of poison lying below the bed, Singh added.
“Chandan was not happy that he had become the father of a daughter. Suspecting that he might have administered the poison to the baby, we questioned him. But he denied.”
Later he admitted to have injected poison into his daughter. The villagers rushed the infant to Balasore district headquarters hospital. Police have detained Chandan in the matter.
