Malkangiri: Nor’wester rain accompanied by a thunderstorm with gusty winds wreaked havoc in Malkangiri on Thursday.
The incident led to the collapse of an under-construction boundary wall on the premises of the airstrip here. Two workers were killed in the mishap.
The deceased were identified as a 40-year-old woman, Tilotama Beria of Gomphagunda in Kalimela and a 19-year-old youth, Manoj Hembram of MV 3 village in Tamasa area of the district.
Following the incident, both of them were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital where they succumbed.
The impact of the Nor’wester rain was so severe that several trees got uprooted and fell on the roads disrupting traffic. Similarly, the roofs of several houses were also blown away by the strong wind.
