Bhubaneswar: In the wake of the horrific rail tragedy in Balasore’s Bahanaga on Friday, the Health and Family Welfare Department has mobilised a total 200 ambulances.

Out of these, 167 are from the 108 fleet while more than 20 are from State Government-run hospitals and medical colleges.

Similarly, 45 mobile health units have been deployed on the accident site for emergency treatment of the injured.

Director Health Services, along with Director Blood Safety, Additional Director, DMET and three other Additional Directors are at Balasore, coordinating health teams.

It may be noted that the death toll in the accident was 233 (and rising) till Saturday morning, while more than 900 passengers were injured in one of India’s deadliest rail tragedies.

Reports of passengers still stuck in the mangled derailed coaches kept coming in as the day passed by.

The Health Department has mobilised about 50 additional doctors to the site along with 25 doctors from SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

“The FMT (Forensic medicine specialists) mobilized from Pandit Raghunath Murmu MCH, Baripada and SCB MCH for supervising the disposal of bodies,” the Health Department informed.
