Bhubaneswar: The Ministry of Railways has disbursed compensation worth Rs 22.66 crore so far to the kin of 661 victims who were killed or injured in the three-train accident near Bahanaga Bazar railway station in Odisha’s Balasore district on June 2.

According to South Eastern Railway, CPRO, Aditya Kumar Chaudhary, the relatives of the deceased and those severely injured in the tragic train mishap have received compensation. At the same time, all efforts are being made to identify the remaining deceased and provide their kin with the ex-gratia announced by Railways, he said on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been continuing with its probe into the accident. When asked about the findings of the CBI team, Chaudhary said he is not authorised to reveal any detail regarding the CBI investigation into the horrific accident. However, he said, “The CBI team has spread across and is probing from all angles”.

Earlier reports said that the CBI team had seized the mobile phones of some railway staff that were on duty on June 2. As part of its probe into the rail accident, the CBI is examining the call records, WhatsApp chats, calls, and social media of the Railway staff on duty on that day.
