Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, a 10-year-old boy was dragged by a crocodile while he had gone to the Brahmani river in Nimpur village of Odisha’s Kendrapara district to answer nature’s call on Wednesday. The blood-soaked, mutilated body of the boy was fished out from the river an hour later.
The deceased has been identified as Ashutosh Acharya, a Class V student.
According to reports, Ashutosh had gone to the river bank along with his mother this morning. While Ashutosh went to attend to nature’s call, his mother went to bathe in the river. Suddenly, a crocodile appeared and dragged him into the water.
Seeing this, Asuthosh’s mother cried for help. Though people rushed to the spot to help the boy, they failed to rescue him from the clutches of the crocodile. An hour later, they succeeded in fishing out the boy’s mutilated body from the river.
On being informed, police arrived at the spot and send the body for post-mortem.
As this is the breeding season for crocodiles, they often become violent and attack people when anyone nears their habitat. Every year several people fall prey to crocodile attacks in Kendrapara.
Meanwhile, the Forest department has been informed about the incident.
