Bhubaneswar: Congress workers hurled eggs and tomatoes at the GRIDCO office here today while staging a demonstration in front of it to protest against undeclared rampant power cuts in the state.
Hundreds of Congress activists including the party’s MLAs took part in the demonstration led by Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Sarat Patnaik.
Patnaik decried the rampant power cuts in villages and towns when the temperature at places was as high as 40-45°Celsius. He alleged that often power supply is restored in villages after 2-3 days.
It is condemnable of Odisha to go for power cuts despite it being a power surplus state, he pointed out.
The PCC president urged people not to pay the interest charged on arrear electricity bills while assuring that Congress will take steps on it when it will come to power in 2024.
Patnaik demanded that electricity bills should be generated on a fixed date.
He demanded a white paper on the issue while of agitation at the district and sub-division level if the government fails to act.
