Bhubaneswar: Here is some good news for the inhabitants of Odisha who have been reeling under a severe heat wave for nearly a month now. The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here has forecast that heavy rain is likely to lash across the state from Wednesday.
The weather office further forecasted that rain accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is very likely to occur from today and will continue till June 25.
The IMD has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph at one or two places in Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Boudh, and Kandhamal districts. At the same time, thunderstorms with lightning are very likely to occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, and Koraput districts today.
Moreover, one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, and Mayurbhanj districts are likely to experience heavy rain on Wednesday.
A yellow warning for heavy rainfall has also been issued for some places in Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, and Ganjam districts on Thursday. On Friday, one or two places in Jagatsinghpur, Puri, and Ganjam districts are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall. The IMD has further predicted that one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Khurda, Nayagarh, Gajapati, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Deogarh and Kandhamal districts are likely to experience heavy rainfall on Friday.
A yellow warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for one or two places over the districts of Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Angul, Deogarh, and Keonjhar for Saturday, while heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Boudh, Kandhamal, Sonepur, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Nabarangapur and Jharsuguda.
