Jajpur: Office bearers of Laxmi Narayan Swadhar Gruha (a short stay home) at Bahabalapur in Jajpur district arranged the wedding ceremony of one of its inmates on Saturday.
Pujarani, a destitute girl was rehabilitated at the Laxmi Narayan Swadhar Gruha managed by the Women & Child Development Department following her rescue from Chandikhol area by the Jajpur district administration in 2018.
The short stay home had become Pujarani’s home since then as she had lost her parents.
The office bearers of Laxmi Narayan Swadhar Gruha Saturday arranged Pujarani’s marriage with Bijay Ojha, a youth from Sinduraimuhan area in Taliha panchayat under Dasarathpur block as per Vedic rituals complete with feast, et al.
“The girl was rescued from Chandikhol in 2018. The CWC had left her at our short stay home. She has been staying with us for the last five years. She has no family members. We arranged her marriage with Bijay,” said Paresh Mallick, Secretary of Laxmi Narayan Seva Pratisthan which runs Laxmi Narayan Swadhar Gruha.
Bijay works as a carpenter, Mallick added.
Additional District Magistrate Dukhabandhu Nayak, and other senior officials of the district administration were present during the wedding ceremony.
“The girl who is getting married is Pujarani. She was rescued from Chandikhol in 2018. She has lost her mother and her father had deserted her. After rescuing the destitute girl she was rehabilitated at the short stay home run by Laxmi Narayan Seva Pratisthan. Fortunately, we got a groom for her-Bijay of Sinduraimuhan village. She is getting married, we are very happy,” said ADM Dukhabandhu Nayak.
