Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and north Odisha and West Bengal coast on Sunday, the regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said today, adding, “Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over Northwest Bay of Bengal adjoining north Odisha-West Bengal coasts, a low-pressure area has formed over the same region with associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height.”
According to the IMD, windy weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 45 to 55 kmph is very likely over the north Bay of Bengal adjoining the west-central Bay of Bengal, along and off the Odisha coast from June 25 to June 27 morning. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea areas off the Odisha coast.
In its weather bulletin for the next two days, the IMD predicted that heavy to extreme rainfall may occur in several districts in Odisha during the day. An orange warning has also been issued for 10 districts of Odisha.
According to the weather office, heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at a few places in Sambalpur, Angul, Boudh, Sonepur, Bargarh, Deogarh, Bolangir, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda with extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places in Sambalpur, Sonepur, and Boudh.
One or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Khurda, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nabarangapur and Nuapada are also likely to experience heavy rainfall today.
The orange warning will remain in effect for Monday with heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) at a few places in Bargarh, Bolangir, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Boudh, and Nabarangpur with extremely heavy rain (>20cm) at one or two places in Balangir, Kalahandi and Bargarh districts.
Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) may also occur at one or two places in Jharsuguda, Sundergarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Koraput during this period.
