Balasore: A 63-year-old woman died, while 15 others in her family fell sick after consuming stale Prasad after a religious ceremony at their residence in Talkurunia and Athilabaj villages in Bahanaga block of Odisha’s Balasore district on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Nilamani Sahu.
According to reports, during a religious ceremony at Nilamani’s house on Sunday, an offering of kheer (a sweet dish prepared with rice, milk, and sugar) was offered to the deity. After consuming it as prasad, 16 members of her family, including herself, fell sick and were admitted to the Gopalpur Medical Center. Later, two persons were shifted to the Balasore District Hospital after their condition deteriorated.
While Nilamani succumbed to her illness, seven people recovered and were discharged from the hospital. Eight others are currently undergoing treatment at the health facility.
Meanwhile, the local administration has sent a medical team to the two villages to meet any emergency situation.
