New Delhi: In order to curb street crime in the national capital, the Delhi Police has detained more than 1,500 people and seized over 270 vehicles from the central district during its intensified night patrolling on Monday night, an official said on Tuesday.
According to police, during the night patrolling more than 1,500 people were detained under Section 65 (Persons bound to comply with the reasonable directions of police officer) of the Delhi Police Act.
“Over 270 vehicles were also seized under Section 66 (Police to take charge of unclaimed property) of the Delhi Police Act during patrolling last night,” said the official.
The official further said that action was also taken under relevant sections of the CrPC against ‘bad characters’ of the areas and people involved in disturbing peace.
On Monday late night, senior police officials, including the Joint Commissioner of Police, Deputy Commissioner of Police and others were on the ground during patrolling with special emphasis on foot patrolling.
This comes days after a delivery agency was robbed at a gunpoint by four bike-borne assailants inside Pragati Maidan tunnel on June 24.
