Bhubaneswar: The Burla police in Sambalpur district have registered a case in connection with the reported clash between the medical students of VIMSAR and MKCG Medical College on Tuesday and started an investigation into the matter.
According to police, the case was lodged on the basis of a complaint filed by Dr Jayashree Dora, principal and dean of VIMSAR, Burla.
A violent clash erupted on the VIMSAR campus on Tuesday when around 65 students from the MKCG Medical College, Berhampur, had come to participate in the inter-college fest ‘Euphoria’. While welcoming the guests, some students of VIMSAR sprayed fire extinguishers on them. Consequently, a heated exchange of words ensued followed. The issue became violent as the VIMSAR students soon attacked the visitors with sticks and stones.
According to reports, nine medical students from both institutions were injured in the clash. The condition of one student is critical and he is being treated in the hospital’s ICU.
The VIMSAR students alleged that the MKCG students passed offensive comments at one of the girl students of their college leading to the clash.
