Bhubaneswar: In a first-of-its-kind achievement for Eastern India, AMRI Hospital Bhubaneswar has recorded 100 robotic knee replacement surgeries within a period of four months. “The feat is a testimony to AMRI’s clinical excellence and technical superiority, touching a new horizon in the specialty of Orthopaedics & Joint Replacement, and bringing to Odisha a groundbreaking technology,” the Hospital authority stated.
As advancements in healthcare innovation are rapidly re-shaping modern medicine, AMRI Hospitals has constantly endeavoured to introduce robotic surgery in joint replacement to the people of Odisha, and has become the front-runner in the field of Robotic Knee Replacement Surgery within a short period of time, the Hospital authorities stated at a press conference held here today.
The milestone has been achieved under the aegis of Dr Sunil Kumar Dash, Senior Consultant & Director, Orthopaedics & Joint Replacement, AMRI Hospital Bhubaneswar.
From March 2023, to date, Dr Dash and his team have successfully performed more than 100 knee replacement surgeries using robotics and the testimonies of the patients who underwent surgery bear witness to the success of the high level of skill judicious use of technology at AMRI Hospitals. All the patients have reported faster recovery, better knee movement, and less pain than through conventional methods, which in turn has led to shorter hospital stay and faster return to normal life.
Dr Dash has been invited as a Thought Leader in the field of Robotic Knee Replacement at various international platforms to educate surgeons from Israel, Thailand, Singapore, and Australia. With his drive to make Robotic Knee Replacement more accessible to the people of Orissa, the people of the state are sure to benefit from such advances in global technology.
Dr Dash explained that in Robotic Surgery surgeons use a robotic surgical arm to execute parts of the procedure, assisting in areas that demand the steadiest hand and navigating small places. The robotic arm can work from 3D images of the surgical area and perform a range of tasks, including prepping the bone, introducing and balancing the implant, and checking for the right fit.
“Advantages of Robotic Knee Surgery have already established itself as a powerful tool for doctors. It offers lower long term costs, better clinical outcome, and higher patient satisfaction,” he said.
Rupak Barua, Group CEO, AMRI Hospitals, said, “We are proud to have touched this landmark and we are happy with the glowing feedback from the patients. At AMRI, we have always believed in keeping up with the innovations and we invest in latest technologies so that we can provide better clinical outcome.”
“Robotic surgery, combined with our world class surgeons, has shown a distinct advantage over conventional methods due to more precision, better results, faster recovery, and high-performance implant use.”
