Bhubaneswar: Balasore Police on Sunday detained nine persons for trying to strike a deal for the question papers of Combined Graduate Level (CGL) ahead of the exams conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC).
A team of 20 police personnel conducted a well-coordinated raid at a hotel near Digha beach at the Odisha-West Bengal border, where the illicit deal was expected to take place. During the operation, the team seized mobile phones, four cars, two traveling vans, and a bus.
Balasore Superintendent of Police (SP) Sagarika Nath confirmed the arrests and said that a thorough investigation is underway. The arrested individuals are currently being interrogated for further details about the question paper leak.
“I want to assure everyone that the question papers have not been leaked. It is a sort of job scam and the members of the racket whose members promise unemployed youths jobs in lieu of hefty sums,” SP Sagarika Nath informed.
According to reports, the accused, including a woman from Digha, were detained by Cyber and Talasari Marine Police while they were allegedly trying to leak the question papers of the CGL exam of Staff Selection Commission to 88 aspirants at a hotel in Digha. All these job aspirants have been rescued by the police, the SP said.
The kingpin of the question paper racket is said to be from Bhubaneswar but the police are yet to disclose his identity.
