Bhubaneswar: Odisha received an average rainfall of 20.5 mm in the last 24 hours with Gudvela block in Bolangir district recording the highest 296.4 mm rainfall in the state in one day.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the average rainfall recorded in Odisha from July 1 to July 18 is 171.1 mm against the July monthly average of 339.9 mm.
This monsoon, the state has witnessed a rainfall deficit. However, much of it is expected to be recovered during the next fortnight as the weather office has predicted heavy to very heavy rain under the influence of cyclonic circulation during the next few days.
At least seven blocks in the state recorded more than 100 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours. These blocks are Gudvela in Bolangir district (296.4 mm), Bolangir and Puintala in Bolangir district (163.0 mm and 145.0 mm respectively), Kantamal in Boudh district (101.0 mm), Thuamul Rampur and Karlamunda in Kalahandi district (189.0 mm and 184.0 mm respectively), and Khoirput in Malkangiri district (107.0 mm).
