Bhubaneswar/ New Delhi: The Union Law and Justice Ministry on Wednesday appointed Justice Subhasis Talapatra as the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court along with three other new Chief Justices of High Courts of Gujarat, Kerala, and Telangana.
Justice Talapatra will assume the post of the Chief Justice of Odisha after the superannuation of the present Chief Justice Dr Justice S Muralidhar on August 7.
Justice Talapatra was elevated as a judge of the Gauhati High Court on November 15, 2011, and after the establishment of a separate High Court for Tripura in 2013, he opted for the High Court of Tripura as his parent High Court.
Earlier, the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the name of Justice Talapatra for the post, saying that he has acquired considerable experience in dispensing justice in two High Courts.
Justice Talapatra has been functioning in the High Court of Orissa since June 10, 2022.
Meanwhile, Justice Alok Aradhe has been appointed the Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court, Justice Sunita Agarwal has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court, and Justice Ashish Jitendra Desai has been appointed the Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court.
