Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday approved the Khadag river basin project which will benefit 20,000 people of Boudh, Bolangir, and Kandhamal districts in the state. The project will be undertaken near Ladgaon village of Baliguda block at a cost of Rs.126 crore. Earlier, the Technical Advisory Committee had approved the project.
The Khadag river basin project will be constructed without displacing anyone from their homestead and will help conserve river water. In addition, the project will meet the region’s drinking water needs during the monsoon, fish farming, and raise the groundwater level.
It is worth noting that when the 5T Secretary VK Pandian visited Boudh district on July 5 on the instructions of the Chief Minister, local people submitted a letter demanding the construction of a barrage on the Khadag river. The 5T Secretary discussed the issue with the Chief Minister and informed him about the demands of the public. The Chief Minister accepted the request of the people and approved the project on Thursday.
