Bhubaneswar: Excise Constable Deepak Kumar Panigrahi of Rayagada, charged with gross misconduct and criminal negligence in duty and conduct unbecoming of a Government Servant, has been dismissed from service by Excise Commissioner Narasingha Bhol on Monday.
Panigrahi was arrested by the Rayagada police for allegedly possessing ganja weighing more than 42 kg on March 14, 2023. He was booked under Sections 20(b)(ii)(C)25/29 of the NDPS Act,1985 and forwarded to the Court of District and Session Judge on the same day.
“Whereas the Excise Constable being bound member of uniform service, instead of performing duty to contribute towards curbing illegal narcotics business, he himself is a part of the illegal trade, having been involved in keeping ganja illegally and arrested,” the dismissal order issued by Bhol stated.
“He has not only disgraced himself, and the Excise Department of Odisha Government, but also has done a great disservice to the society…Excise Constable Deepak Panigrahi of Rayagada district is discharged from Odisha Lower Excise Service with immediate effect,” the letter added.
