Bhubaneswar: Even as many areas of the capital city faced severe water logging problems after the torrential rains on Monday, the Team BMC (Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation) was in the field to respond to any unpleasant emergency situation. BMC Mayor Sulochana Das visited different places in the city and talked to the community members to learn about their woes.
About 25 pump sets from Fire Services and BMC were engaged on Monday to clear the water logging in different areas of Bhubaneswar.
Evacuation of a few slum residents to safety places and food arrangements have been ensured, read a statement issued by the BMC on Monday midnight. Team BMC led by Commissioner has been moving to the water-logged areas where citizens were counseled not to panic.
A total of 25 pump sets were engaged and 280 people were evacuated from Ward No. 54 to RK Mission School under the SE zone. An evacuation was also undertaken in Ward Nos. 62 and 46. The evacuation was carried out at Rajivnagar till late in the night.
Waste collection vehicles, JCB, and other apparatus were deployed at different locations.
In all, 1929 call centers received about 60 calls related to water logging. Local corporators were proactively involved in combating water logging and other emergencies.
