Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Odisha, especially the coastal and northern regions of the state, will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday under the influence of the depression over the northeast Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said today.

Monday’s well-marked low-pressure area over central parts of North Bay of Bengal concentrated into a depression and lay centered at 0530 hours IST on Tuesday over northeast Bay of Bengal near latitude 20.5°N and longitude 91.5°E about 200 km southeast of Khepupara (Bangladesh) and 430 km east-southeast of Digha (West Bengal).

It is likely to intensify further into a deep depression and move northwestwards and cross the Bangladesh coast near Khepupara around Tuesday evening. Thereafter, it is very likely to move west-northwestwards across Gangetic West Bengal during the subsequent 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the IMD has issued an orange warning to 13 districts in view of heavy to very heavy rainfall on Tuesday and a yellow warning to 11 districts. Some areas of the state are likely to experience heavy rainfall ranging from 7 cm to 20 cm.
