Millets are very nutritious and it has the potential to better the health of the people of our state, especially children. We have to make millet-based food palatable for them. Collaborations with different stakeholders is crucial for the success of the programme and I am very happy to see the commitment and dedication of the Department of Health and Family Welfare, the Department of School and Mass Education, Private Schools, and Private Hospitals towards the mission. But through Odisha Millets Mission, we also want to make this inclusive so that someone at the last mile can also be benefitted by this.
We are also making efforts to preserve the landraces or the traditional varieties of millets through this project. In this journey of revival of millets, the most important stakeholders are hospitals and school children. That’s why we are collaborating with Department of Health and Family Welfare and the Department of School and Mass Education, along with hospitals and school, both government and private, and Department of Mission Shakti to achieve the goal of the mission.
In this regard, a preliminary series of meetings has already been held with the concerned departments to evolve a common strategy. In addition, preliminary outreach activities have also been undertaken in private schools and hospitals. Now it is time to take the discussion to the next level. Our collaboration with the health and education sectors, both government and private, will have a lasting impact on health and future our children and society.”
