Bhubaneswar: Around 8.00 lakh cusecs of flood water is likely to pass in the Mahanadi river at Mundali by 12.00 noon on Thursday as the rivers and reservoirs in the region are filled with rain water and need to release the excess water. The incessant heavy rains during the last few days have led to an alarming rise in the water level in all rivers and reservoirs in the region and need to be released for the safety of the reservoirs.
As much of this water will be released on Thursday noon, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has asked Collectors of Angul, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Khordha, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, and Kendrapara to take all measures and guard the weak/vulnerable embankments.
The SRC has directed to ensure 24×7 patrolling of vulnerable river embankments with the support of local police and DoWR engineers, evacuation of people from low-lying areas as may be required, and shifting them to safe shelter buildings with light, toilet, water, and food arrangements
Meanwhile, 8 NDRF teams, 13 ODRAF teams, and 23 additional Fire Services teams have been deployed in 15 districts of Odisha – Bhadrak, Jajpur, Sambalpur, Keoonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Balasore, Cuttack, Puri, Khordha, Jagatsinhgpur and Kendrapada for SAR operation.
