“In this entire incident as of now, we have come to know that it is a gang operating in a corporate structure. Those sharing information are different persons, those executing the crime are different persons, logistics (vehicles) are provided by different persons and arms are provided by different persons; the groups are in segregated formats. This is how they operate. A total of 14 accused persons were involved in this particular case. As of today, we have arrested total seven persons in this case,” informed Balasore Superintendent of Police Sagarika Nath addressing a presser here today.
Nath told that the police will be now applying for the conduct of a test identification (TI) parade of the accused persons as well as of the recovered jewellery.
“We have decided to circulate the photographs of those apprehended and those identified among the banks in this area to prevent further occurrence of similar incidents. The reason being previously three incidents having similar pattern have taken place in this area-in Basta in 2019, in Bhograi in 2020 and again in Basta in 2022. Similarly, on coordinating with East Midnapore and West Midnapore we found that crimes with similar pattern have also taken place in those areas with the involvement of the same group,” said Nath.
She said that apart from the 14 identified for their involvement in this case, another six persons who were involved in Basta and Bhograi incidents have been identified.
Further arrests will be made very soon, she added.
“We have recovered 854 gm gold having an approximate market value of Rs 49 lakh,” the SP said.
Six armed dacoits had entered the Union Bank at Chandaneswar under Talsari police limits on April 26th and had decamped with around Rs 45 lakh in cash and approximately 8 kg of gold.
