Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Sunday launched its SHINE (Sanitation, Hygiene Inspection for Neat Environment) initiative with a view to keeping the capital city clean and ensuring that its residents are healthy.
Acting on Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s vision to make Bhubaneswar the No. 1 city in the country vis-à-vis sanitation and hygiene, the BMC’s SHINE initiative will comprise 10 teams and each team will have five members. These members have been provided with special uniforms and vehicles.
According to BMC Mayor Sulochana Das, the SHINE members will visit all nooks and corners of the capital city and inspect whether there is any waste dumping by people in these areas. They will initiate action to clear the waste dumping and, if necessary, will impose penalties on the violators.
The formation of Team SHINE assumes importance in view of the spreading cases of dengue and other vector-borne diseases in the city,
