Sambalpur: In a shocking incident, a youth of Hirakud Colony in Odisha’s Sambalpur district had to undergo a series of woes and mistreatments after his finger was snapped in an accident while cleaning his motorcycle.
According to reports, when the ring finger of Sanath Mohanty was detached from his hand while he was cleaning his motorbike, his family rushed him to Kalada Medical Centre at Raipur in Chhattisgarh as the proper medical facility was not available in Sambalpur.
To his and his family’s surprise and shock, doctors who operated on Sanath’s hand buried his ring finger inside his stomach after the surgery. Gradually, the infection on his hand as well as in his stomach increased causing pain and discomfort. As the situation continued to deteriorate, they left the hospital.”
Sanath’s mother Babita Mohanty said, “When we questioned about the viability of the procedure, doctors in the Raipur medical facility told us that this was the normal procedure.”
To add to the family’s woes, the medical center at Raipur initially said they would accept the Biju Swasth Kalyan Yojana card to cover the expenses of the surgery. However, when the family was about to leave for Sambalpur after 15 days, they were handed over a medical bill to the tune of Rs 3.5 lakh.
