Bhubaneswar: In yet another incident of man-animal conflict, a woman was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Odisha’s Khurdha district on Monday morning.
The victim was identified as Ranjana Pradhan (35), the village head’s wife, a Punjiam village resident under Banapur police limits.
According to reports, the victim had left her house to go to a nearby canal to defecate early on Monday morning when she confronted a wild elephant. The animal had invaded the village for food and trampled Anjana injuring her grievously.
As the news of the incident spread, villagers chased the elephant away and rushed Anjana to the Banapur Community Health Center, where the doctors declared her dead.
On being informed, police reached the village and launched an investigation.
Meanwhile, the incident has triggered panic among the villagers who find it unsafe to reside in the midst of a tropical forest, which is also a habitat of wild elephants.
