Berhampur: Two kanwariyas were killed while 11 others sustained varying degrees of injuries after a car rammed into them near Betnoi late on Sunday night. The accident occurred a few km away from Berhampur in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
According to reports, 17 kanwariyas were carrying the holy water from Aska to Tarkeswar Temple in Arakhpur village when a speeding car rammed into them killing one kanwariya on the spot another succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at a healthcare facility in Kaudiya.
The deceased have been identified as Mukuna Behera (32) and Anita Kumari Jena (38), both residents of Arakhpur village in the district. While Anita died on the spot, Mukuna breathed his last at a medical facility in Kaudiya. The 11 injured have also been admitted to MKCG Hospital where their condition was stated to be stable.
Fortunately, six other kanwariyas escaped without any injury.
