Balasore: In a bizarre incident, a wanted accused electrified the fence around his house to avoid arrest and broke the hand of a policeman who had gone to arrest him. The incident occurred in Purushottam village under Soro police limits in the Balasore district of Odisha on Sunday.
According to reports, a criminal case registered under Section 307 was pending against Banshidhar Malik since 2009. Despite repeated summons, he refused to appear before the court. Finally, a policeman from Soro visited his house to arrest Banshidhar and produce him before the court.
However, the cop was unable to enter Banshidhar Malik’s house as the accused had electrified the fence around his house to prevent anyone from entering to arrest him. The policeman was, however, courageous and managed to overcome the barrier and reach the door of Banshidhar’s house. However, when he tried to arrest the absconding accused, Banshidhar roughed him up breaking his arm.
On being informed, the Soro police arrived at the spot to rescue the cop held hostage by Banshidhar. Intriguingly, though the police party managed to rescue the policeman, they were unable to enter the house and arrest Banshidhar. They had to return empty-handed on Sunday.
On Monday, the police made a fresh attempt to arrest the accused, but Banshidhar had fled his village by then. Finding no alternative, the police finally held Banshidhar’s mother and daughter and detained them at the Soro police station.
