Bhubaneswar: The regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here has warned of heavy rains in nine districts in Odisha, including the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, in the next 12 hours on Friday.
The districts that will experience heavy rain with lightning include Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri and Koraput. These districts are likely to receive 70 to 110 mm of rainfall. On Saturday, there will be rain with thunder and lightning in 17 districts of north and south Odisha.
However, the weather office has predicted that the amount of rain will decrease in the state from August 27. Currently, there is no system effect on Odisha. The monsoon low-pressure line is slightly north of its normal position.
The state has recorded below-normal rainfall from June 1 till August 24. Eleven districts received, 20 to 59 per cent of the normal rainfall, while 17 districts received normal rainfall and two districts of the state received more than normal rainfall.
