Bhubaneswar: Odisha on Thursday observed the annual Local Self Government Day by transferring more powers to the citizens and launching various welfare schemes and projects for them. Local Self Government Day also known as the ‘Swayat Shasan Dibas’ signifies the delegation of power to the people via the municipality or panchayat.
Congratulating the people of the state on the occasion, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik wrote on his X handle, “Best wishes to all on Local Self Government Day. Transparency and participation of all of us in the process of democratic governance will help deliver the benefits of governance to the people. Today, let us move forward with determination to achieve grassroots public health, sanitation infrastructure development, and general welfare work.”
The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) observed the day by hoisting the national flag at the BMC-ICOMC Tower in the capital city. On the occasion, the BMC dedicated three AC Mahajatra vehicles, one animal lifting ambulance, five mosquito fogging vehicles, and 10 mosquito oil sprayers for the benefit of the citizens.
The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) wished good health and happiness to all citizens of the Silver City on the occasion of the Swayat Shasan Dibas or Local Self Government Day. The municipal body also laid the foundation stones for a library-cum-community hall (Biju Sabha Gruha) and smart footpath at Nuapada, an Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) in Nayabazar, and a modern prefab smart library at Balisahi.
Earlier on August 28, the CMS inaugurated seven projects and laid the foundation stones for two developmental projects to commemorate the occasion of Swayat Shasan Diwas in the presence of State Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain.
