Bhubaneswar: Former Odisha Assembly Speaker and sitting MLA of Digapahandi Surjya Narayan Patro passed away today evening.
Patro breathed his last at a private hospital at 7.31 PM today. He was 74.
He was admitted to a private hospital in a critical condition today.
Senior BJD leader Patro, a seven-time legislator was elected to Odisha Assembly four times from Mohana and three times from Digapahandi.
He had proved his efficiency as a minister in different departments of the State government apart from being the Speaker of the Odisha Assembly. He served as Speaker of the Odisha Assembly from 1st June 2019 to 4th June 2022.
He was a strongman in Ganjam politics, an organiser at the grassroots level. His demise has caused an irreparable loss in the field of politics in Odisha.
