Aravalli (Gujarat): Gujarat BJP MLA and former IPS officer P.C. Baranda was robbed of valuables worth Rs 11 lakh after two individuals broke into his residence in Aravalli district on Friday.
The incident took place at Vankatimba village under the Bhiloda taluka, where the armed intruders held the MLA’s wife, Chandrikaben, a retired deputy collector, hostage before making off with cash and jewellery worth Rs 11 lakh, according to the police.
Baranda was in Gandhinagar when the incident took place.
It is suspected that robbery was carried out with the assistance of someone familiar with the layout of the house, as the perpetrators appeared to have a specific target — a cupboard — in mind. The robbers forcibly broke open the cupboard and seized jewelry estimated to be worth around Rs 7 lakh.
Currently, two suspects are in police custody.
Baranda had opted for voluntary retirement in 2017 while serving as the Superintendent of Police in Chhota Udepur.
