Bhubaneswar: Baijayanti Kar, Human Resources (HR) Head of Eastern Media Ltd, the holding company of Odia daily ‘Sambad’ on Tuesday appeared before the Economic Offences Wing (EOW).

“We don’t deny. Employees have taken loans. All of you who have worked in Sambad know about that. Don’t you ?” said Kar responding to queries from reporters while leaving the EOW office.

Further responding to a query from a reporter on the complainant’s alleged claim that a loan had been availed against his name without his knowledge, Kar said it’s ‘baseless’.

A team of EOW on Monday conducted a search at Sambad Bhawan, the corporate and editorial office of the Odia daily Sambad.

In an official press release issued on Monday, the EOW claimed to have seized some important documents related to EOW Case no 24/2023 under sections 506/467/468/471/420/120-B of IPC.

It said that the EOW has registered a case on the allegation that large numbers of employees of Sambad were forced to take personal loans under threat. The loan amount running into crores was not given to the employees concerned but allegedly used by their employer company Eastern Media Limited, Bhubaneswar.

The press release said that the EOW on September 16, registered a case against Baijyanti Kar, Soumyaranjan Pattnayak and others on the report of complainant/victim Asim Mohapatra, an ex-employee of Sambad/ Eastern Media Limited, Bhubaneswar.
