Bhubaneswar: Proceedings of the Assembly were adjourned till 4:00 p.m. following a showdown between the Opposition and ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) members during the Zero Hour.
Moving a breach of privilege notice against the Chief Minister soon after the House settled for the day’s business, Opposition Chief Whip Mohan Charan Majhi referred to the statement made by the Chief Minister in the House on the CMO officials visiting different districts to hear the grievances of the people on September 25.
“We had not sought a statement from the Chief Minister on the issue. He placed a statement in the House on his own to shield the 5T Secretary. He termed the Opposition as ‘anti-people”. Who is anti-people? The Chief Minister should tender an apology and ensure expunction of the word from the proceedings”, the Opposition Chief Whip said.
The ruling BJD members countered the Opposition by shouting slogans. On the other hand, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Niranjan Pujari brought a privilege notice against the leader of the Opposition.
“The Opposition should not bring any privilege notice on the basis of unparliamentary issues. The Opposition should not use the Assembly as a political platform”, he said.
The House witnessed noisy scenes over the matter for which Speaker Pramila Mallik adjourned the proceedings till 4.00 p.m.
