Puri: A young tourist from Jharkhand drowned while bathing in Bay of Bengal in Puri today.
The 24-year-old Vishal Oram was working in Jharkhand Chief Minister’s office.
As many as 21 staff from the Chief Minister’s office visited Puri for darshan of Lord Jagannath and stayed at a Hotel in Chakratirtha Road.
Oram and his colleagues were bathing in the sea near Shankar International in the afternoon.
Vishal was swept away in the sea due to a strong current and drowned. Others immediately dialed ‘112’ for assistance, following which lifeguards and fire brigade rushed to the spot and launched the rescue operation.
However, he was found dead by the time he was rescued.
A case of unnatural death has been registered at Sea Beach police station and further investigation is underway.
