Sundargarh: As many as 20 more people on Saturday tested positive for scrub typhus in Sundargarh district in the last 24 hours.
Of the 74 blood samples sent for examination, 20 were found positive, informed Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Dr. Dharani Ranjan Satpathy said. With the fresh cases, the total number of infections in the district climbed to 292.
Earlier, one patient had succumbed to the disease while a critical patient had been admitted to the ICU.
The scrub typhus testing facilities are available at two places- Rourkela Government Hospital and Sundargarh District Headquarters hospital
This infection spreads through bites of infected chiggers (larval mites). The common symptoms of the disease include fever and a black inflamed mark on the skin called ‘eschar.’
People who frequently visit farmland or forest areas are vulnerable to the infection.
