Bhubaneswar: With the well-marked low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal weakening into a low-pressure area, the intensity of rain across Odisha is likely to decrease, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a bulletin published on Monday.
“The well-marked low-pressure area over southeast Jharkhand and adjoining areas of Gangetic West Bengal and north interior Odisha now lies as a low-pressure area over south Jharkhand and neighbourhood,” the weather office said.
At the same time, the IMD on Monday issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rain in several Odisha districts, including Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Keonjhar, and Sambalpur during the next 24 hours.
A yellow alert for heavy rain has been issued for one or two places in Bargarh, Sonepur, Bolangir, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore and Kendrapada. In addition, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning may occur at one or two in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh and Khurda.
In its weather forecast for Tuesday, the IMD said heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Puri, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh and Deogarh. It has also issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall for Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Balasore during the subsequent 24 hours.
