Sambalpur: Two people were killed in a hit-and-run accident on State Highway No. 24 near Paruabhadi village under Kuchinda police limits in Odisha’s Sambalpur district on Wednesday early morning.
One deceased was identified as a resident of Paruabhadi, while the other was from nearby Pandikata village.
According to reports, the gruesome accident took place at around 5.30 a.m. on Wednesday when the two had gone outside to attend nature’s call. They were run over by an unidentified speeding vehicle that fled the spot after the accident.
Irked villagers of Paruabhadi staged a road blockade by burning tyres on the State Highway demanding adequate compensation to the victims’ families and the arrest of the accused driver. The road blockade disrupted vehicular movement on the State Highway and several vehicles were seen stranded on both sides of the road.
On being informed, Kuchinda police and local authorities arrived at the spot and tried to appease the protesting villagers.
