Sambalpur: The district administration has restricted immersion procession during Durga Puja in the city. However, Kalasa Yatra and Ravan Podi events are allowed.
It was decided at a meeting of the peace committee and district administration chaired by Collector Ananya Das today. Superintendent of Police (SP) Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo, Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC) Commissioner were present at the meeting.
“The procession of idols in the town is not allowed. But, permission has been given for Kalasa Yatra and Ravan Podi utsav,” SP MK Bhamoo said.
Puja committees are also allowed to use loudspeakers at the mandap, he added.
The administration is trying to solve various issues of the people before the festival. Issues related to road, sewerage and sanitation are given priority, Collector Ananya Das said.
Similarly, the civic body has formed extra teams to sort out the civic issues. “The teams are working on street light complaints. More teams will be formed if further complaints come. We will also depute a sanitation staff at each Puja mandap to look after cleanliness issues,” the Commissioner said.
Five locations have been identified for the artificial ponds where the idols will be immersed. Four of them are readied already, he added.
