Bhubaneswar: The last rites of eminent Odia music director Swaroop Nayak will be performed with state honours.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik directed the Home Department in this regard, a release issued by the CMO stated. Patnaik condoled the demise of Nayak and expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family.
“I am saddened to know about the demise of noted music director and lyricist Swaroop Nayak. His unique music compositions will always occupy a special place in the hearts of music lovers. He will be remembered forever for his valuable contribution to enriching the world of Odia cinema. May his soul rest in peace and my condolences to the bereaved family members,” Patnaik posted on his ‘X’ handle.
His last rites will be performed at Satichaura cremation ground in Cuttack on Saturday.
Nayak on Friday breathed his last at the age of 76. He had been battling with throat cancer for long.
Apart from being a successful musician, Nayak was also a lyricist, singer and actor.
He had started his career as a music director in ‘Hira Nila’ movie in 1962.
