Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Odisha are likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall for the next few days under the influence of an active low-pressure area over the southeast-central Bay of Bengal region, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday.
The low pressure will move west-northwestward forming a depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal within the next six hours and subsequently, it is likely to move northwestward over the west-central Bay of Bengal on November 16.
The depression will take the form of deep precipitation by Thursday bringing in heavy rain to coastal Odisha. The IMD has already issued an orange alert for heavy rains in coastal Odisha for Thursday. Jagatsinghpur, Puri, and Kendrapara are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. Heavy rain is also expected in some places of Ganjam, Khurda, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Jajpur, Baleshwar, Mayurbhanjwar, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal and Nayagarh districts.
According to the weather office, the rainfall will continue till November 17. The IMD issued a yellow alert for heavy rain in several districts on November 17. The coastal areas of Odisha will witness wind speeds of 45 kmph to 65 kmph, it added.
Fishermen have been advised to refrain from going to sea from today till November 17.
