Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance has arrested Sub Inspector (SI) of Baunsuni police station Bikram Kumar Dehury for taking a bribe of Rs 15,000 to release a seized motorcycle.
Accused SI Dehury was forwarded to court today.
According to an official press release, SI Dehury of Baunsuni police station in Boudh district was arrested on Tuesday by the Vigilance for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from a complainant (owner of the vehicle) through digital transfer (PhonePe) for release of his motorcycle.
Though, Sessions Judge, Boudh had directed IIC Baunsuni police station to release the seized motorcycle SI Dehury demanded a bribe of Rs 15,000 from the complainant and asked him to deposit the bribe amount in an account number to release the seized vehicle.
Accordingly, the complainant transferred the bribe amount (through PhonePe) to the account number provided by Dehury and the receipt of bribe amount was confirmed by accused Dehury.
Soon after transfer of bribe amount, Dehury was trapped by the Vigilance team.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches were launched on his rest room located inside Baunsuni police station and house at native village Ratha Sahi, Puruna Katak, in Boudh district.
Accused Dehury was forwarded to court today.
