New Delhi: The efforts to rescue the 41 labourers trapped inside the under-construction Silkyara tunnel in Uttarkashi have entered the final stages, a senior officer said, adding that they will reach the 41 trapped workers by Thursday.
The workers have been trapped since November 12 when the under-construction tunnel from Silkyara to Barkot got blocked due to debris falling in a 60-meter stretch on the Silkyara side.
Rescue workers are reportedly only meters away from the trapped group. Ambulances are on standby and a special ward has been kept ready at a local health center.
“The rescuers will take 12 to 14 hours more to complete drilling and reach workers,” according to Bhaskar Khulbe, former advisor to the PMO.
Officials had earlier said that the rescue workers would be able to break through this morning, but overnight efforts were stalled after the drills encountered unexpected iron rods in the debris.
