Bhubaneswar: After facing flak from several quarters over crowd management at Shree Jagannath temple in Puri, the State government has decided to set up a tunnel-like dedicated corridor for devotees waiting in long queue outside the shrine.
An 85-metre-long air-conditioned corridor would be set up on Grand Road, facing the temple.
“The proposed corridor with air condition system and drinking water facilities has been planned for the devotees for the smooth darshan. The State government has planned it based on the feedback received from the devotees,” Puri sub-collector Bhabataran Sahoo said
Discussion with all the stakeholders is in progress. It will be functional soon, he added.
The corridor will be set up from Marchikot Chowk to the Jagannath Temple office on the Grand Road. Devotees are expected to get the facility by the end of this month.
The corridor will provide the service throughout the year while it will be dismantled during Rath Yatra.
It is worth mentioning that 5T and Nabin Odisha chairman VK Pandian today ordered the authorities concerned to evict the vending zone from both sides of the Grand Road from Singhdwar to Marichikot chowk.
